Kharif sowing in the country this season has been 413 lakh hectare
New Delhi: Last week, there were heavy rains in many parts of the country. Therefore, the area sown under kharif crop has increased bringing it to 413 lakh hectare till now. According to the report released by the Central Agriculture Department, sowing has dropped by 9 per cent compared to the previous year. During monsoon, Kharif sowing remained stagnant due to low rainfall in the country. However, last week, due to good rainfall in the northwest, east, northeast and central India, the sowing has started and so far it has been sown in 413 hectares.
Paddy cultivation in the country is 98 lakh hectares. Last year, there was rice in 110 lakh hectares and sugarcane cultivation was 52% during the same period. Presently, it is 50 lakh hectares. However, due to good rainfall in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, pulses have been sown on 34 lakh hectares. At present, 25% fewer pulses have been sown compared to last year.
