Government will Increase Export of Agricultural Products
New Delhi: Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Suresh Prabhu said that in order to promote the export of agricultural products from the country, the government has identified zones and clusters under the new Agricultural Export Policy.
This new agricultural export policy is jointly organized by the Ministries of Commerce, Agriculture and Food Processing. He said that these zones and clusters have been selected to maintain easy access to ports and airports.
Suresh Prabhu said that the Ministry of Commerce will set up a series of such centres in the states with the help of farmers and exporters, so that they can easily brand and sell their products in
the international market, where demand is high.
India exports large - scale rice, tea, and coffee. In the financial year 2017 - 18, India exported 40.56 lakh tonnes of Basmati rice worth 26,870 crore. In addition, the export of non - basmati rice amounted to Rs 22, 967 crore to 86.48 lakh tonnes. At the same time, during the first nine months of the current financial year 2018 - 19, Basmati rice exports amounted to Rs 21,203 crore and non - basmati rice worth RS 15,529 crores during the April - December period.
