Control of Nematodes in Pomegranate
Reports of cultivating pomegranate have risen in many states in India. Several pests and diseases invade the pomegranate tree, resulting in losses. An outbreak of nematodes which is not apparent to the eyes and is more evident in the pomegranate. Therefore it is necessary to control nematodes at the right time.
The below measures can be considered: 1. Do not use soil that is infected by nematodes when grafting. 2. Vegetables and pulses should not be cultivated in the fields for 1 to 2 years before pomegranate is planted. 3. Before sowing pomegranate, carry out deep ploughing of the soil 2-3 times and then let the soil heat up in the summer. 4. When grafting pomegranate, use the Neem cake in the pit. 5. Do not graft tomatoes, brinjal, chilli, okra, cucumber, etc. in pomegranate 6. During flowering in the pomegranate tree, use 1 to 1.5 kg of neem cake per plant in the root of the tree. 7. Organic fertilisers should be used to control nematodes. For example, use Pasilomaxis, Trichoderma Plus, Pseudomonas to control nematodes.
