Appropriate Management of Watermelon Crop
Proper fertiliser and water management of the crop is essential for the good, vigorous development and maximum production of watermelon. Manure Management: According to soil tests, chemical fertilisers and micronutrients are essential to the crop. However, for proper, vigorous growth of the crop, neem waste @3 kg, single super phosphate @3 kg, potash @3 kg, micronutrients @3 kg, sulphur 90%@ 3 kg per/acre should be applied at the time of sowing. Subsequently, according to the crop condition and as per the need, give the drop-through irrigation through the recommendation of soluble fertilisers.
• 25 days from sowing of cultivation - 19: 19: 29 @ 1 kg per acre / day • 20 to 35 days- 12:61:00 pm @ 1.5 kg per acre/day. • 30 to 50 - Calcium Nitrate @ 5 kg 2 times per acre • 36 to 45 days - 13:00:45 pm @ 1.5 kg per acre/day. • 50 to 65 days - 00:52:34 pm @ 1.5 kg per acre/day. • 60 to 65 days - Potassium Shonite @ 5 kg per acre 1 time Spray Management: • In addition, in 10-15 days after planting, 19: 19: 19 @ 2.5- 3 grams + micronutrients by spraying 2.5- 3 grams per litre of water. • Then after 30 days in flowering stage - boron @ 1 gm + microorganism 2.5 - 3 gm • Fruit stage - 00:52:34 @ 4-5 grams + micronutrients (grade 2) 2.5 - 3 grams, 00:52:34 @ 4-5 grams + boron 1 grams. • When the fruit is ripening, it should be sprayed by adding 13:00:45 @ 4-5 grams, calcium nitrate @ 2.5-5 grams per litre of water. It is important to keep a gap of 4 days within each spraying. Water Management: This crop is very sensitive to water. In the early days, the crop needs less water. Water it at intervals of five to six days and water at 9 a.m. Later, as the crop grows, the need for water also increases. Be careful not to strain the water after the fruiting period. If irrigation is irregular, it is possible to cut or resize the fruits. Considering the type of soil and the stage of crop development, proper planning of water should be made.
