Eight thousand crore investment plan for dairy industry
Pune: The Union Government will soon invest Rs 8,000 crore in the dairy industry. It is likely to receive grants from the laboratories of milk cooperatives and milk collection centers in the country. The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) plays an important role in this. The Union Government had introduced National Dairy Development Scheme in 2012 through 'NDDB'. The first phase of the scheme cost Rs 2250 crore. This phase is ending this year. During the first phase, milk production increased, but the quality issue remained. Therefore, in the second stage, all the teams involved in Maharashtra, Gujarat are getting attention.
In the second phase, subsidy will be provided mainly for strengthening the laboratory. The Center is also preparing to provide Rs 5 crore each to eligible teams. Adulterated milk is found in all states. Therefore, the Center feels the need to strengthen the quality control system of milk teams. This is the first time that such a large number of dairy laboratories will receive grants. The central government feels the need to work at both the levels of milk quality and collection. Therefore, one lakh milk collection centers in the country will be given Rs. 1.25 crore. A framework for funding is being prepared.
